If you’ve ever worked in rentals, you’ll know how many people refer to themselves as an ‘advanced’ rider, only to end up admitting that they’ve only ever spent a few days on snow during a holiday the year before.
And while there are the occasional few who manage to pick up skiing or snowboarding pretty quickly, more often than not, it can be pretty hard to pick up a new skill in just five days. Which is why we wanted to offer local shredders a more consistent option to learn and hone in their skills.
Cue Rhythm Futures.
As Niseko’s only seasonal programs for young shredders, Rhythm Futures offers local up-and-comers 12-weeks of weekly on-snow learning with the same instructor and group participants all season long, offering a specialised and focused approach to learning in a comfortable and supportive environment.
But what other benefits are there of a seasonal program outside of more time on-snow?
Well, to name a few, here’s some of the benefits we think a seasonal program offers:
A Specialised and focused Approach To learning:
While sometimes a secondary opinion can be helpful, chopping and changing through instructors week-by-week can often make it a lot harder to learn. By training with the same instructor and participants all season long, young rippers are given a greater opportunity to focus on personalised goals tailored to their riding ability.

More Yennies, Less Problems
Ever bought your 13 year old a new jacket, only for them to grow out of it in 6 months time? Yep, it’s a dilemma we’ve all faced, and while in many circumstances (such as buying school uniforms) the easy solution is to just buy something three sizes too big so that they can ‘grow into it’, that doesn’t really work with a set of skis.
So what’s the best option? Constantly renting? Picking up cheap hand-me-downs? Buying a set of skis in every size so they always have something to ride? That all seems like a pretty big strain on the hip-pocket if you ask us.

Which is why Rhythm Futures, in collaboration with K2 skis, offers brand new, in-season models for young rippers to ride on all season long. It’s almost seems too good to be true – free K2 rentals all season… we wish that was an option when we were kids!
Plus, with all the added cash you save on not buying the young ones new gear every season, you can get yourself a brand new pair of K2 skis to add to your collection – winner, winner, K2 dinner.
More Free Time
We know, we know, free time without your kids is just an unenjoyable time that nobody wants, NOBODY.
…ok, are the kids are gone now? Let’s be real, how good is a little bit of free time on the weekends, especially when you’re based in one of the best powder destinations in the world? It’s the only time you can shred all day, stop for lunch and revel in how cheap it is to only buy two bowls of ramen instead of five. Times that by 12 days per winter season, you’ll be feeling like an empty nester – but only on the days when you want, the pow days.
Making Future Friends Through Futures
As we all know, friends who ski together, stay together – so why not start those social connections early on in life? By riding with the same group of friends all season long, local shredders are offered a diverse and dynamic network of friends who all share the same passion for the snow and help to push each other to develop their abilities.
A first-hand perspective that Futures Director, Matias, has been able to enjoy as an onlooker,
“It’s actually been super beautiful to see, they’re always looking forward to the start of winter. Sometimes families only come here for the winter, so they might not see their friends for the whole summer and they get so stoked when they do get to ride together again.”

You Never Stop Learning, Why Not Start Early?

As explained by Matias, “Every lesson that you do, it’s a new lesson for you as well. With social media, kids are finding crazy footage of stuff that you’d never really think of doing, so they definitely come into each week with new tricks or new skills that they want to try out.”
Give your kid an opportunity to safely learn those new skills they’re finding online under the professional guidance of a certified instructor. Because as we all know, if you’re going to learn a new skill, it’s much better to learn it the right way the first time around!
