When the mountaintops surrounding Niseko turn green it’s time to ditch the skis and grab a bike! The ‘green season’ is currently in full swing, which means Rhythm has gone from living and breathing all things snow to loving all things bike. Here’s a taste of what summer has brought with it cycle wise so far, and a bit about what’s to come…
NATURE RIDE NISEKO
Niseko’s competitive cycling calendar kicked off with this inaugural event, which was deemed a complete success by organisers and competitors alike. Nature Ride Niseko gave entrants the choice of three courses including the 60km Enjoy Course, the 120km Long Course and the 200km Challenge Course. The event was designed to provide a fun experience for riders, giving them the chance to take in some of the spectacular scenery around Niseko as they completed their chosen course. Rhythm Japan provided a free mechanic for the day, making sure everyone’s wheels were running as smoothly as possible.
NISEKO HILL CLIMB
For Niseko’s more serious cycling community, the Hill Climb is one of the toughest and most hotly contested events on the calendar. It takes place on 1st August and will attract some of the best riders from around Japan. The race climbs 617 vertical meters over 15.5km, finishing at Goshki-Onsen, high in the Annupuri Ranges. It’s definitely not for the faint hearted! Rhythm Cycles will be providing the event’s official mechanic along with producing the event jersey.
DORIDE DOWNHILL – RHYTHM HIRAFU CUP
This event is perfect for those who prefer to leave the smooth bitumen behind and take a rougher ride down the mountain. Scheduled to take place on 30th August the Rhythm Hirafu Cup will see the very best downhill riders from around Hokkaido take on the slopes of Hirafu in spectacular style.
TOUR DU NORD
This is a seven-day point-to-point tour that aims to take riders on a wild and wonderful journey across the east of Hokkaido. Cyclists visit cultural sites along the way including shrines, volcanoes and onsens, with accommodation provided in traditional Ryokan’s including Japanese style dinners and breakfasts. We are proud to present this tour each year and can’t wait to take this year’s participants on a fantastic adventure!
