You’re used to shredding double black’s back in Australia, you arrive to JaPow and think, ‘I don’t know how to ride this…..’
Yep, we’ve all been there – riding pow truly is a skill in itself, and if you’ve only ever ridden groomers in overseas, you’ll have a bit of a learning curve.
Luckily, we’ve got Rhythm Furano‘s Brent Francis lined up for our next Tips From The Team: Tackle Furano’s Pow Like A Local.

While a new face at Rhythm, there’s a fair chance you’ve seen Brent around before. Whether you’ve hired gear from him during his winters in Falls Creek, caught him at the bar for a few post-shred après, seen him spearfishing along Sydney’s coastline, or tucking into a well learnt Snickers on the chair lift (a common occurrence), he’s an absolute man about town, both, in his new home of Furano, and abroad.
So when you’re tackling waist-deep pow for the first time this Furano visit, take a few notes out of Brent’s book:
Tip 1: WAX!

“As a workshop tech, I know how important it is to have your gear in tip top shape. Waxing is one of the best things to help you on those flat areas!”
Tip 2: Send It!

“If it’s a powder day and you are riding with friends, try things you always wanted to try or normally too scared to do so, it’s soft it won’t hurt as much!”
Tip 3: Ride With Others!

“I truly believe riding with a wide range of people really helps you progress, especially if they are way above your riding level, you learn and pick up tips much quicker.”
Tip 4: Speed!

“If you’re just starting out or never tried snowboarding before, speed is your friend. It is easier to control and turn and less likely to catch an edge. If you are riding the Park you most likely need more speed than you think.”
Tip 5: Other Resorts!

“Riding other resorts is always fun and a great way to keep the stoke up, especially if you start to feel bored with your local.”
Tip 6: Rest Day!

“Take a rest day. It’s a great way to let your body recover and also it helps stop bad riding habits.”
